Gary William Hartley

Gary William Hartley, aged 72, of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13th, 2018.  Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Joyce Jensen Hartley, his sister Debra Morrison and her husband John, his son Nathan Hartley and his wife Dianne, his daughter Jennifer Clarke and her husband Jason, his step-son Larry Pickett and his wife Sharon, his step-son Gregg Pickett and his partner Kimberly, his step-daughter Jill Savage and her husband Kevin, his 13 grandchildren, Amanda, Korie, Joshua, Nathan Jr., Holly, James, Benjamin, Mark, Isaac, Alexandra, Lauren, Courtney and Braxton and 6 great-granddaughters, Mariah, Amaya, Karsyn, Ayanna, Payton and Aliyah.  Gary was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Wanda Hartley.

Gary was raised in the Wheaton/Silver Spring area and graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in 1963.  Gary worked for many years as the top salesperson for L.A. Benson Company and in recent years enjoyed working as a sales representative for MultiCam East.

Gary will be remembered for his deep love of his family and his complete devotion to his grandchildren. A source of tremendous pride for him, Gary was their biggest fan at every sporting event and rarely missed a game.  Strangers quickly learned all about his talented grandchildren.  Gary’s deep love for his grandchildren was returned in kind and they are brokenhearted at his passing.

Gary enjoyed traveling and spent wonderful vacations in Maui, Hawaii where Mama’s Fish House was his favorite place to dine.  He also enjoyed time with family in Disney World and the Outer Banks in North Carolina.  Gary loved dining at all the area restaurants and could always give anyone a good review on the best places to dine.

In recent years, Gary and Joyce have enjoyed the company of their neighbors at Patapsco Overlook in Catonsville where Gary always looked forward to his Thursday night poker game with friends.

Gary will be remembered for his wonderful memory, his radiant smile, his warm and easy demeanor, and his genuine care for other people. He will be missed more than words can express.
