Dr. Jason David Smith, an Emergency Medicine physician, Age Management physician, and retired Major in the United States Army Special Forces, died in his home in Bend, OR on 01 March 2017. He was 46 years old.

Jason attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Master of Science degree in Biomechanical Engineering. Jason then attended Medical School at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He did his Emergency Medicine Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Other academic accomplishments include a Masters degree in Public Health and a Masters degree in Tropical Medicine both also earned at Tulane University.

Jason served 27 years in the United States Army as an 18-Delta in the Army Special Forces, an Army Ranger, a Combat Diver, HALO Jumper and cross-trained as a Navy SEAL. He was highly decorated for his acts of bravery, valor and patriotism spanning his more than two decades of service. His last active duty assignment was as the Dive Medical Officer at the Special Forces Underwater Operations School in Key West, FL. During his tenure as the DMO there, he was an integral part in the training, qualification and the graduation of over 1,000 Military Combat Divers and Navy SEALs.

Jason was the founder and Chief Medical Officer of Ares Age Management, which was designed and devoted to improving the lives of aging Special Forces and other elite military soldiers.

During Jason’s earlier years, he enjoyed playing rugby and golf. After his military career Jason also became fond of fostering and rescuing dogs from local shelters. ‘Toolbox’ and ‘Ricky’ are the rescue dogs he leaves behind. Jason always made those around him laugh with his exceptional wit and humor, and had a knack for making anyone that was around him – even total strangers - feel like old friends. He was extremely generous with his knowledge and time to anyone in need.

Dr. Jason David Smith is survived by his devoted and beloved fiancé Adrienne Curran, M.D. of Key West, FL, his parents, Robert Smith of Relay, MD and Katherine (nee: Beck) Smith of Catonsville, MD, brother Ian McBrine Smith of Finksburg, MD and Micha Smith of South Lake Tahoe, CA and nephew Gannon McBrine Smith of Columbia, MD.

Family and friends may gather at the CANDLE LIGHT FUNERAL HOME by Craig Witzke 1835 Frederick Road on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 2-4pm. For those desiring memorials may be made in his memory to: Task Force Dagger, Dogs in Danger and/or Cascade Canine Rescue.
