In the month of All Souls, with the Church preparing to gather for the season of Advent, we say goodbye to a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to so many. John Douglas Farmer aka Big John or Johnny, celebrated his 81st birthday October 28th, and on November 26 at 3:00 am, God called him home. We have hearts that are both sad and grateful at the same time. He was so beautifully cared for all the way until the end by the staff at Charlestown and his Gilchrist hospice team.
John’s family includes his lifelong love, Rosemary. They would have been married 60 years January 19, 2023. John and Rosie cherished their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to include Rev. J. Kevin Farmer, Kris Farmer (Kalinock), Pete Kalinock, Christopher Kalinock, Emily Kalinock (baby Rosie Lou on the way), Connor Kalinock, Amy Farmer (Bishop), Wil Bishop, Kaleigh Bishop, Kevin Bishop, Shawn Bishop, Kirsten & Nathan Stevens and Noah Stevens. John is survived by his brothers Fred and Mike and his sisters Frances and Carol Ann, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws as well as many nieces nephews.
He worked for the phone company for over 40 years which brought him countless lifelong friends and work colleagues. John also had a great love to the people, the history, and his family in Ireland having traveled to the North of Ireland on many occasions.
