Robert G. Lloyd
1952-2020

Robert Gordon Lloyd passed peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020, after a very brief illness.

Born in Princeton, New Jersey, he was a longtime resident of Catonsville, Maryland. After attending St. Mark elementary school, Rob graduated from Gilman School and from the University of Virginia in 1975, majoring in political science and international studies.  He was president of the TKE fraternity in his senior year, and remained a loyal Cavalier fan. After post-college travels to places as diverse as the Jersey shore and Maui, Rob settled into a good life as a painting contractor in the Baltimore metro area, never missing an opportunity for fun, family and fellowship when it presented itself. Trips to Atlantic City and then Maryland Live! were frequent, and he was often lucky—and generous.

Rob is survived by his brother, Edward Lloyd of South Orange, NJ (Janine Bauer) and sister Pamela Lloyd Coulter of New York, NY (John V. Coulter) and by his nephew Alexander Lloyd and nieces, Kimberly Coulter and Abigail Lloyd, all of New York, NY.  He was a terrific brother and uncle.  He is survived by his Goddaughter Whitney Driver Flood.

He was predeceased by the love of his life Eva.

Rob was a devoted caretaker for both of his parents, Edward Lloyd, Jr. and Catherine F. Lloyd, who both predeceased him.  His laser-focused attention to his father who suffered from ALS likely added years to his father’s life.  After his father died, Rob was the sole caretaker for his mother for over three decades, and his care was evident because she lived to 101.

Rob was also a true friend to his hometown buddies in Catonsville, his college co-conspirators, and to his extended family of aunts, uncles and many cousins from Wisconsin, South Carolina, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky.  Rob was always there for friends and relatives with whatever they needed – some company, help with moving, a paint job and anything else.  Rob loved music and managed the PumpHouse band for a number of years.  He was also dedicated to kids as a coach and a mentor.

He will be interred at St. Paul Cemetery in Princeton, New Jersey. A memorial service will be scheduled at some future date.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be considered in his honor to St. Mark School, 26 Melvin Avenue, Catonsville, Maryland 21228.
