Barbara (Galatian) Schmickley

Barbara Schmickley, 92, passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2021. A wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Schmickley; Her son, Tom Schmickley. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Carole Baumann; Her three grandchildren, Bailey Baumann (Bob Mergner), Kasey Baumann (Kelyn Freedman), and Hutson Baumann.

Born on April 29th, 1929, in Catonsville, Maryland, Barbara lived a life full of love. She graduated from University of Maryland and was involved in her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi throughout her life. Her husband's job took her to Lexington, Massachusetts, and she enjoyed being the president of both the hospital auxiliary club and the garden club there. Barbara was a true lifelong learner and liked taking new classes. She particularly loved learning and teaching others about the Revolutionary War and was the manager at Buckman Tavern in Lexington, MA, and a docent at Mount Clare in Baltimore, MD. To know her was to know comfort and warmth. Everyone was included. The most organized person, Barbara was always the planner, always the one to get things done. She enjoyed summer vacations at the Tides Inn with her family, and loved all her friends at Charlestown dearly. Her daughter and grandchildren were her world, and she was active and involved with all of their lives.

While she will be missed immensely, she is now back with her devoted husband and son. And that is peace.

A memorial service will be held in the following months.
