Betty (Kilroy) Bloecher

Betty Bloecher (Nee Kilroy) was born in Cumberland, Maryland on April 25, 1930, to the late Joseph B. “Bartley” and Agnes T. Kilroy (Nee Walker). She passed peacefully on November 12, 2021, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John H. Bloecher, Jr.

Betty graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art (now MICA) and the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.  Betty met John at art school and married him in 1954; they remained married until his death in 2019.

Betty was an avid gardener and a voracious reader. She excelled at creating a variety of beautiful hand-crafted objects, including quilts, crocheted blankets, holiday wreaths, collages, and many other items. Many of these items were donated for sale to the annual fundraising bazaar at Bethany United Church of Christ, where she was an active member.  Betty was proud of her neighborhood and had many friends there and in the wider community of Woodlawn, MD.

Above all, Betty was a beloved wife and mother. She is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her loving children, Eric Bloecher (Julie) and Jean Cooper, her adoring grandchildren, Gillian, Daniel and Alexander. Her loss will be felt by many other caring family and friends.
