Camella "Mary" Heaney

Camella "Mary" Heaney, nee Marcellino, was born and lived in Baltimore for over seventy years.  She spent her later years living in Berlin, MD spending her days near the beach.  She died on April 24, 2020 at 99 yrs old.
Born in Baltimore and raised on Fairmount Avenue near Patterson Park, she attended St. Elizabeth's parochial school, Seton High School, and studied one year at St. Agnes Hospital's nursing school.  She was employed as a telephone operator at Fort Holabird during World War II.
One of her nursing school classmates (the late Rita Nitsch, nee Heaney) arranged a blind date with her brother, the late Clement T Heaney, Jr., whom she married in February of 1945.  A few years later the couple purchased a home on Haverhill Road in Violetville where they raised five children.  She was active as a parishioner at St. Benedicts Catholic Church and subsequently Our Lady of Victory, and was instrumental in many fundraising activities including a weekly Friday bingo where her children went to school.  She also contributed to the establishment of parish facilities and programs. For many years, she served as a parent advisor for the local CYO providing countless recreational activities for many of the youth.
Camella was a homemaker and spent much of her days handling three carpools daily and performed health care for elderly homebound clients to supplement her family's income and eventually worked full time as the first cafeteria manager at the newly opened Keough High School.  Her husband predeceased her in May of 1967, and she was left to finish the rearing of her children alone.  She worked as a cashier at the Sanitary Supermarket in Arbutus until she retired in 1983.  At that point, she cared for her mother for many years.
At age 70 she relocated to Berlin, MD to live near the beach.  She joined St. Leo's Catholic Church in Ocean City and also enjoyed her gardens, remodeling and decorating her home, as well as entertaining and socializing with her many neighbors and family members.  She was most happy when her family visited.  She was an avid fan of her Baltimore Orioles and Ravens teams.  The last four years, she was a resident of St. Elizabeth's nursing home as she needed additional care.
Survivors include a daughter, Rose Marie Ford (spouse Frank) , and two sons, Michael Norman (spouse Kimberly) and Paul Leo Heaney (spouse Jacqueline), as well as five grandchildren, Michelle (Cahoon) Cunningham (spouse Michael), Steven Cahoon (spouse Shanna), Kristen (Heaney) Zook (spouse Pete), Ryan Heaney (spouse Megan) and Lauren (Cahoon) Mahon (spouse Michael) as well as four great-grandchildren, Sophia and Teagan Cunningham and Kaelyn and Jackson Mahon.  Two sons, Dr. Joseph Paul and Clement Thomas, III predeceased her as well as two grandsons, Paul Michael Cahoon and Michael Paul Heaney.
At this time, a burial service will be held  at New Cathedral Cemetery.  Only immediate family is allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
