Charles Paul Gailunas, 76, died at home in Catonsville, Maryland, on April 27, 2016. Charlie was born in Torrington, Connecticut, to Charles Carl Gailunas and Stella Felczak Gailunas on March 22, 1940. He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University and served in the United States Army from 1964-1966, retiring as a First Lieutenant. He had a distinguished career as a Human Resources executive and retired from Northwest Hospital Center in 2002. Charlie is survived by his wife, Barbara Riedel Gailunas, their six children and 13 grandchildren: Kate Gailunas; Lynn and Joseph Fletcher and their children, Kaitlin, Joseph, William and Mary Elaine; Sarah and Mark Bauer, and their children, Morgan and Luke; Alixandra and Kenneth Philbin, and their children, Michael and Ryan; Karol and Brent Quinn, and their children, John Paul, Carson and Samuel; and Charles Lavis and Erika Gailunas, and their children, Charlotte and Caroline. Charlie was an avid golfer, suburban farmer and he loved to cook for his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and traveling with Barb, his wife of nearly 52 years. More than anything, he cherished the time he spent with his family. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, April 29 at the Candle Light Funeral Home by Craig Witzke located at 1835 Fredrick Road. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 30 in the chapel of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, located at 26 Melvin Avenue in Catonsville.
