Charles David Leiter of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home November 6, 2024, following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary Ellen Leiter, Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Suzanne Leiter, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Jr.) and Elaine Leiter. He will be remembered by his son and daughter in law, Timothy and Kerry Leiter, and daughter and son in law, Kathryn and Rudy Grimm. In addition to his children, he leaves behind his adoring granddaughters Cecilia Leiter and Iris Grimm, who affectionately referred to him as “Grumps.” His loss will be felt by many family members and friends.
Charles was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan, incredible cook and baker, and was most known for his quiet humor and quick wit. He was the first call for friends stuck on a crossword puzzle, and top pick as a partner for trivia games.
Originally from Waynesboro, PA, he moved to Maryland where he and Suzanne started their family. He worked in finance throughout his life, eventually retiring from the UM Marlene & Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2018. When he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2023, he was comforted in knowing that he was being cared for by his former coworkers and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, Maryland 21228 on Saturday, November 23 from 11 am-1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center .
