On Monday, November 1, 2021, Charles “Howard” Strahler, JR., husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 81.
Howard was born on April 28, 1940, in Baltimore to Ruth and Bub. He graduated Class of 1958, from Milford Mill Senior High School. He joined the Navy in 1958 and received an honorable discharge in 1962. He had multiple overseas tours aboard the guided missile destroyer the USS GYATT as a radar man. Upon returning to the states, he worked with his father and grandfather as a commercial printer. After retiring from the printing business, he worked 20 years at Wal-Mart in the electronics department learning about cameras and cell phones.
Howard had a passion for collecting “stuff” especially trains. Christmas was his favorite time of year. He would always put up elaborate train gardens in the basement or living room. He would also travel to visit special train gardens in the area. He enjoyed taking pictures of his family and his adventures and putting them in photo albums. Howard loved his beloved dog Shelby Ann who met him at Rainbow Bridge. He was a caring Pop Pop, who fell in love with granddaughter the first time they met. Together, they would sneak out after school to hang out at Opie’s for ice cream and snow balls. He loved animals.
Howard is preceded in death by his father, Bub and his mother, Ruth. He is survived by his wife Pat, his daughter Chris, her husband Mark, his granddaughter Rosie, his son Mike, his grand-pets and several nieces and nephews.
