Charlotte “Shirley” Anna Stromberg (Nee Bangert) passed away peacefully surrounded by her four children on August 1, 2023. She was 96. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence “Buck” J. Stromberg, her parents, Charles Bangert and Helen Bangert (Nee Moser), and sisters, Helen Campbell, Alice Moyer, Dorothy Krepka and Anna Novak.

Shirley was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 23, 1926. Her appreciation and devotion to family and faith began with her parents, Charles and Helen.  She grew up with her four sisters on Curley Street in Baltimore City where a few of her favorite memories were their family outings to nearby Patterson Park, dressing up for Sunday mass, and their dad taking them on Sunday drives. Curley Street eventually became the weekly Sunday gathering place for the five Bangert sisters, their spouses and the 26 nieces and nephews between them all.

In early 1956, Shirley met Buck, her husband of almost 50 years, at a mutual friend’s wedding, and they were married on September 8, 1956. This is when her true vocation began. She excelled at being a devoted wife and busy mom caring for her active children, Charles L. Stromberg (Kathleen), William “Bill” J. Stromberg (Lisa), Margaret “Peggy” M. Pasquarella (Richard), and Richard “Dick” J. Stromberg (Suzanne).  Buck and Shirley enjoyed raising their family in Westview Park, sending them to Catholic schools, vacationing in their second home in Ocean City, MD and sharing family life with many lifelong friends and their children.  She later cherished being an active part in the lives of her 11 grandchildren (four with spouses).  And her three great grandchildren, plus one on her way, brought her a lot of joy. Shirley’s kind ways and beautiful heart will be missed by many other caring relatives and friends.

Family and friends may gather at the Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Rd. Catonsville, MD 21228 on Monday, August 7 for a visitation from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
