Dennis Melvin Dillinger was born on January 13, 1951 and was the son of LTC and Mrs. Harry Melvin Dillinger, MD ARNG. He was promoted to Glory on December 23, 2016 at the the age of 65 after a battle with a debilitating illness. Dennis is survived by his sister, Doris E. Rall of Pasadena, Md and his brother Harry Richard (Dick) Dillinger of York, SC. He was the proud uncle of of 18 Nieces and Nephews, 2 great Nephews and his family of cousins and many friends.
The Dillinger family moved to Catonsville from the Irvington area of Baltimore when Dennis was 8 years. He attended Catonsville Elementary School, Catonsville Junior High, and graduated from Catonsville Senior High School. He also attended college at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Dennis graduated from a gemologist program of the American Gemologist Institute and was a certified gemologist. He worked at the Stieff Company and other high-end jewelry stores.
Dennis was a fan of basketball, particularly the Baltimore Bullets, and coached many youth basketball teams in the Catonsville area. He was also an avid fan of all Baltimore sports activities. Living in Catonsville for over 55 years, he took an interest in the history of the area. He researched the history of the beginnings of Catonsville and was able to provide many interesting facts about the town. Dennis was particularly proud of the fact that he never missed the Catonsville 4th of July parade, which he attended for 55 years until health problems kept him from attending.
A memorial service will be held during the memorial gathering.
