On Friday, June 1, 2018 Donald Paul DeBoy passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Don was born in Arbutus, MD., son of Ferdinand and Hazel DeBoy (Winslow).
Don attended Ascension School first through eighth grade, Mt. St. Joseph’s College and Catonsville High before enlisting in the US Navy, serving on the USS Briareus during the Korean War. He had a long-standing career in transportation management, retiring in 1997 from Random House Publishers.
For many years Don was active with the Transportation Club of Baltimore and the Maryland Motor Truck Association where he was involved with federal and state legislative affairs. In his earlier career he was active with the United Steelworkers of America while employed with the American Can Company in Baltimore. Don had a love for Maryland politics and held different positions with the Patapsco Democratic Club and once served as the Baltimore County Campaign Coordinator for a prior MD Governor’s race.
He was proud of his Arbutus/Halethorpe roots and loved telling stories of his great childhood memories with family and friends on the DeBoy farms and his summer vacations at the family’s summer shore house. In his spare time he loved spending time with his family, vacationing at the beach, traveling to Jackson Hole, WY, boating on the Chesapeake and rock fishing trips with his kids. He was also a sports enthusiast who loved the former Baltimore Colts, Navy Football, the O’s and Ravens and enjoyed attending his kids’ and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Don is survived by his wife Margaret DeBoy (Small) of Bridgeville, DE; five children; Former MD Delegate Steven DeBoy, Sr. and wife Jenny (Knode) of Halethorpe, Timothy DeBoy and wife Laura (Pingel) of Ellicott City, John DeBoy and wife Cindi (Cross) of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Colleen DeBoy and her partner Michael Abendschoen of Catonsville, Daniel DeBoy of Catonsville; grandchildren Steven DeBoy , Jr and wife Molly, Amanda Walsh and husband Keith, Diana Kean and husband Kevin, Jake Smuck , Chance DeBoy, Allison DeBoy and David DeBoy; great grandchildren Jack Deboy and Bowen “Bo” DeBoy; brother John “Jake” DeBoy and wife Joyce, sister Kathleen Whitaker and several nieces and nephews who he loved dearly; two lifelong best friends Donald Streaker and Ronald Wintermute. His parents Ferd and Hazel DeBoy and beloved brother in law Edward Whitaker preceded him in death.
