Dorothy Lee Shallenberger

"Dorothy Lee Shallenberger (née Lucas) was born December 18, 1924 in Baltimore MD, first born child of William Samuel Lucas and Agnes Elaine Lucas (Warthen). She grew up on Park Heights Avenue and graduated from Western High School in Baltimore. She married the late James Henry Shallenberger on October 5, 1946. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her only sibling William Jr. (Sonny).
Dottie and Jim had five children: Peggy Shallenberger Adams (Wayne) of Whittier, CA; Susan Shallenberger Lundin of Ellicott City, MD; Patricia Eileen Ellery (Mark) of Morro Bay, CA; Michael Douglas Shallenberger of Baltimore; and Stephen Craig Shallenberger (Cathy) of San Marcos, TX.
She is also survived by adored grandchildren Kathie Clark (Marty), James Lundin (Cathy), Steven Lundin (Mia), Sarah Adams (Andy Yu), Emily Breytenbach (Jaco), Chris Shallenberger (Gina), and Alyssa Shallenberger; and by four step-grandchildren: Jessica, Ginger, Tyler and Toby. Her family is expanding to the next generation with the blessings of great grandchildren Allison, Samantha, Savanna, Gianna, Kyla, a baby girl due in April and six step-great grandchildren.
Dottie loved to play Bridge, read and travel. A history buff, she enjoyed historical sites and along with Dad piled us kids into a crowded car on many occasions to visit battlefields and other sites close to Baltimore. She and Dad made many trips with family and friends and until his passing they were avid square dancers. She visited California and Texas many times both with Dad and later alone and was always up for a day trip exploring those states.
She missed her beloved husband Jim terribly after his sudden passing over 20 years ago and often told us she was ready to join him anytime. Now they are together, no doubt rounding up a few couples for a rubber of Bridge or a rollicking square dance. She will be terribly missed by her friends and her family. Memorial Gathering, 10 - 11:30am on Friday, January 13th, Candle Light Funeral Home by Craig Witzke. Memorial Service to follow immediately, 11:30am. Interment Private.
