On March 30, 2017, Edith Mae (Gompf) Feustle passed away peacefully after a long battle with congestive heart failure. A long time resident of Towson, she moved to the Charlestown Retirement Community in February 2013 where she enjoyed lots of activities and made many new friends.
Edith was born on September 26, 1928 in Towson, Maryland. She was the second of four children born to Ella C. Bayne and Lewis C. Gompf. Her father died when she was five and Edith had to assume the role caregiver to her younger siblings. Her sister, Ella (Boots), was her life-long best friend. Her siblings, Lewis (Bud) Gompf, Jr., Ella Gompf Brazis, and Clayton C. Gompf all pre-deceased her.
In 1948 she met the love of her life, Al (William Albert Feustle) at a duckpin bowling alley. They were blessed with three children: Judy; Debbie, and son-in-law, Jeff Blair; and Bill and daughter-in-law, Lisa. She was also a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren, Christopher and Victoria “Vicah” Blair and Hannah and Sarah Feustle. Family was a very important part of her life - she was the proud aunt of 18 nieces and nephews and was known for fantastic family Fourth of July celebrations, bringing together both sides of the family for softball games, picnic fare and fireworks, as well as many other holiday feasts and get-togethers.
Edith was a long-time participant in a ladies duckpin league and was also in a church bowling league with her husband for many years. In her later life she took up golf to play with Al, and also played in a nine-hole ladies club at Longview Golf Course (Fox Hollow) and an 18-hole club at Pine Ridge Golf Course. She also took art lessons and painted several oils that she proudly hung in her apartment.
She was a long time member of the Arnolia United Methodist Church and attended there until she moved to Charlestown. She most recently attended Catonsville United Methodist Church with her daughter, Debbie and her family.
Edith loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their concerts, recitals, and sports activities. She loved the series of family pets and her special grand-dog, Bella. She enjoyed walking along the beach collecting shells and relaxing in the sun at Bethany Beach.
Please join us in celebrating her life at viewings on Sunday, April 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The internment will be at Dulaney Valley Memorial Garden at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 3, followed by a memorial service at Catonsville United Methodist Church (6 Melvin Avenue) at 10:30 a.m.
