Edward John Hogarty, 72, passed away peacefully at St Agnes Hospital on September 25, 2014. He was surrounded by his family and close friends. Ed was a lifelong resident of Maryland and has lived in Windsor Mill, Md. since 1992. He spent nearly all of his working life at Ft. Meade with the NSA. Ed retired from the NSA in 1995 after a long successful career concentrating on languages and computer science. Ed was very active and influential in AA. He celebrated his 30 year anniversary of sobriety earlier this year on March 2nd. Ed has mentored, sponsored and counseled many people throughout his long involvement with AA. For years, after he retired, Ed volunteered his time and efforts for the Missionaries of Charity - Gift of Hope, in Baltimore, Md. helping hospice patients who had nothing or no one to care for them. Ed was fun loving, outgoing, witty, generous and had a passion for helping others.
Ed’s wishes were to be cremated with no public viewing. A memorial service for family & friends, is scheduled for Saturday November 8, 2014 from 2-4pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Westchester Ave. Catonsville, MD 21228.
Ed is greatly missed by his family, friends and countless others who he has touched with his kindness through the years.
