George J. (Jr.) Wood

George “Bubby” Wood, 86

George Jardin Wood Jr. of Columbia, Maryland passed in the afternoon on Thursday, January 5th 2017. Born May 23, 1930, in Glen Cove, NY and raised in Old Westbury, NY and Southington, CT, he was the son of the George Jardin Wood Sr. and Edna Tobin Wood. He is predeceased by his wife Joyce Jenkins Wood and two brothers Richard Tobin Wood and Roger Gary Wood.

George was an avid gardener and longtime resident of Wilde Lake. He met his wife Joyce in Okinawa, Japan and married in Hong Kong while spending 30+ years working for the National Security Agency before retiring in 1995. Post retirement he was a frequent attendee of pottery, painting and other classes at the Florence Bain Center and Howard Community College. He is survived by his two children, Amy Jardin Wood and George “G.J.” Jardin Wood III, his three grandchildren Briana Marie Snyder, Greysen Joyce Wood and Deven Byner Wood and his great granddaughter Amelia Mary-Jane Jones as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for George will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church 9120 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042. A reception will follow at 1pm at Slayton House 10400 Cross Fox Ln, Columbia, MD 21044. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Florence Bain Senior Center 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia, MD 21044.
