Joan Marie Reichart of Ellicott City Maryland, passed away at age 94 surrounded by her family on November 6, 2019. She was born on December 31, 1924 in New York City, the daughter of Marcel and Katherine de Lignac.
Joan was a graduate of Academy of Sacred Heart of Mary in Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York. She was employed by Bergdorf Goodman in New York City as a buyer and a model.
Joan was married to Malcolm at the Church of the Sacred Heart on July 2, 1949 in New York City. Together they raised six boys between New York and California. She was a dedicated and loving mother who devoted her life to her family. Some of Joan’s greatest joys were her involvement with her children’s sports activities as a dedicated little league mom and constantly driving and picking them up.
Joan was married to Malcolm for 70 years before he passed away just weeks earlier on October 12, 2019. Surviving Joan are children, Stephen of Ellicott City MD, James (Mary) of Catonsville MD, Donald of Ellicott City MD, Michael of Columbia, MD. She was preceded in death by husband Malcolm, and sons, Charles (Pam) and Neil Reichart. She had 3 Grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica), Brigette (Max) and Paul Reichart and 3 Great Grandchildren, Matteson, Caleb and Jacob. Drew Flynn was very close and devoted friend of the family.
Joan was a devote Catholic and her faith gave her solace throughout her life. She and Malcolm led the family on many adventurous trips together which took them through many states and local and national parks, and particularly wonderful and memorable trips in California and the west coast. They will both be dearly missed by all who knew them.
A funeral service will be held for both Joan and Malcolm at the Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City at 10am on December 6, 2019. Interment will be at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
A mass will be offered in her intention at the Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City at noon on December 1, 2019.
