John Ralph Giordano passed away peacefully on September 6th at his daughter’s home in Ellicott City, at the age of 89.

John was born in Baltimore in 1931 to Frank and Helen (Glass) Giordano. First in his family to go to college, he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of MD College Park.  He was in the ROTC during college, served briefly on active duty in the Navy, and then served 10 years in the Naval Reserves, He had an accomplished career, working over 38 years at Westinghouse, most notably with the development of the AWACS program.

John married his wife Ardelle (Phillips) in 1962, and they were happily married for 57 years. They lived in Catonsville for 40 years, before moving to Waverly Woods in Woodstock 10 years ago.  John enjoyed spending time with friends and family, dining and dancing, travelling, playing golf, and rooting for his beloved Baltimore Colts, Orioles, Ravens and Terps. He supported many charitable organizations. As such, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust if desired.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Theresa Bolick, brother-in-law Robert Bolick, and step-mother Valeria Giordano.

John is lovingly remembered by his wife Ardelle, daughter and son-in-law Linda and Tom Rainville Jr, granddaughters Rachel Upman, Holly Rainville, Sydney Rainville-Derro and Jordan Rainville, great-grandson Alfred Upman, and his brother Chris Giordano.

Friends and family are invited to visitation hours that will be held at The Candle Light Funeral Home in Catonsville MD on Friday, September 11th from 3-5pm and 7-9pm.  The burial service will take place graveside at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium MD on Saturday September 12th at 11am. (Masks and social distancing will be observed).
