John Edgar Henkel (“Jay”), aged 80, a resident of New Windsor, Maryland, died peacefully surrounded by family, on December 29, 2021. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 17, 1941 to the late John Norman Henkel and Louise A. Marling Henkel.
He is survived by his wife, Carole A. Henkel and his loving children, Mary Denise Patri (Tom) of Naples, FL, Kevin Calder (Amanda) of New Windsor, MD, Jennifer L. Tichy (James) of Hanover, PA, daughter in law, Lisa C. Henkel of Fort Worth, TX and a sister, N. Chris Milton of Palm Harbor, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, John A. (“Jack”) Henkel, Abigail Henkel, Maximos Adams, and Brooklynn Adams. His loss will be greatly felt by many other caring family and friends.
He is preceded in death by Kathleen Calder (daughter), John T. Henkel (son) and L. Marling “Puc” Cohen (sister).
He was a Past Master Free Mason of the Knickerbocker Lodge 182 (New York). An alum of McDonogh School Class of 1959 (Owings Mills, MD), he served on the Alumni Board of McDonogh School from 2010-2015. He enjoyed spending his free time with his dog, Willow, his grandchildren, voraciously reading on his back deck, playing a good “bad” game of golf, and entertaining family & friends as often as possible.
Family and friends may gather at the Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road Catonsville, MD 21228 on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 12:00pm-1:30pm. Visitation will take place from 12:00pm-1:00pm, followed by a memorial service from 1:00-1:30pm. Burial will follow at Louden Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkens Avenue Baltimore, Maryland 21229 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Scholarship Program at McDonogh School, 8600 McDonogh Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117.
