Joseph Michael Poag, of Ellicott City, MD, passed away on January 25, 2023 after a brief illness. He was 81.

Joe was born in Virginia on November 16, 1941, to Horace Poag and Sarah Poag Hurst (Nee Long). He grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Edmonson High School before joining the Baltimore Police Department in 1964, retiring as a Captain from the Baltimore County Police Department in 1985. After his retirement, Joe joined the Maryland Racing Commission as Chief Investigator, where he worked until his death. In his free time, Joe enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and fishing.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Nancy Poag (nee Butler), as well as his loving children David (Brenda), Michele (Wade) and Danielle (Sean). He was the proud grandfather of Candace (Adam), Deanna (Chris), Dustin, Chad, Chris, Zoe, Ava, and Aaron and great-grandfather of Trinity, Kyden, and Malia. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Friends and family may gather for a visitation at the Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228, on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Candle Light Funeral Home on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Baltimore County Police Assistance & Relief Fund .

For those who are unable to attend the Memorial Service, it will be lived streamed at Candle Light Funeral Home's YouTube Channel .
