On April 10, 2023, Josephine Ann Eby (Chalhoub), of Columbia, Md., joined the risen Lord, in God’s heavenly kingdom. She was born January 13, 1936. Her family was part of the Syrian community in Brooklyn, New York where she grew up with her brother Joe and in the company of Syrian aunties and cousins. In high school she was in Sodality Club, Glee club and Red Cross, and was the class bell ringer. She enjoyed ice skating and basketball. At Mount Aloysius Junior College she was President of the Sodality Club and Secretary-Treasurer of the Dramatics Club. Her classmates noted she was generous, kind and dependable, which held true her whole life.
Jo moved to Washington, DC after graduating from college and to start her career as a medical technologist at Providence Hospital. It was then that she met and married her loving husband of 65 years, Louis Clark Eby. She is survived by her husband and her three children, Donna Eby Van Wie (Wayne), Marianne Eby (Thomas Wood), Michael Eby (Yolanda) and her six grandchildren, Caitlyn Van Wie (Samuel Slingluff), Ryan Eby, Courtney Van Wie (Charlie Jones), Ben Eby, Spencer Wood, and Isabella Wood.
She was predeceased by her parents, Toufik and Angele Chalhoub, her brother Joseph Chalhoub and sister-in-law, Jean Chalhoub.
Jo worked as a medical technologist for 52 years. She was the laboratory supervisor for over 30 of those years, from Providence Hospital to private practices, and her favorite job at Athens Lab. Her patients loved her and requested only her.
Jo enjoyed many summers at their Ocean Pines beach house with her family and friends. While raising her children she escaped to duck pin bowling, and was secretary/treasurer of the PTA. All her life, she loved to prepare the Syrian dishes of her childhood for her family. Jo loved her pet dachshund, boating with her family, driving her convertible and to sing along to music. She loved to gather her family for holidays and spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Her family will host a visitation on Saturday, April 15th from 10 am until 12 noon with a prayer service beginning at 11:30am at Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD (21228). Entombment private. There will later be a celebration of life for Jo in early summer.
