Judith Scherben Hogarty

July 3, 1955 - June 3, 2019 (Age 63)

Judith Scherben Hogarty passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2019 after a 14 month fight with cancer.  Judy was born in Taunton, Massachusetts; a beloved daughter to the late Andrew and Jeanette Scherben on July 3, 1955. She is survived by her loving husband John F Hogarty of Laurel, Maryland, her sister & brother-in-law Marianne & Richard Brennan of Taunton, Massachusetts, her brother & sister-in-law Andrew & Gina Scherben of West Kingstown Rhode Island, her sister-in-law Rosemary LeBlanc of Cockeysville, Maryland and was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews.

Judy attended Coyle Cassidy High School in Taunton, MA. She graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  Judy then earned her Masters of Science in Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University’s Whiting School of Engineering in 1989.

Judy’s work career began in 1977 with General Electric in Goldsboro, NC.  In 1978 Judy moved to Maryland and worked at General Electric in Columbia until 1983. After a year at Westinghouse, Judy accepted a position with the National Security Agency in Ft Meade Maryland, where she worked in management until her retirement in 2015. Judy took great pride in her contribution to the important work done at NSA over her 30 year career.

Judy was a woman of character.  She was warm, kind and generous to her family and many friends. As anyone who knew Judy can attest, the world is brighter for having her in it.

In her spare time, Judy enjoyed playing her piano and concert harp.  She loved vacationing in Pawleys Island, SC and taking long walks on the beach.  To say Judy was as avid golfer is an understatement. She played every chance she could get and was very accomplished. She also greatly enjoyed reading and was never far away from her Kindle or a good book.

As much as she wasn’t ready to go, she left her mark on this earth and we are so grateful.  Judy will be sorely missed by her family, friends and those who had the honor to know her.

There will be a Funeral Mass in Judy’s memory on Friday June 14th at 11:00am at St Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville, MD. A reception/luncheon will immediately follow the mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, those who would like to honor Judy may consider donating to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) or their favorite charity.
