Mrs. Juleanne Kathleen “Judy” Bennett, 78, of 9218 W. Stayman Drive, Ellicott City, MD died May 23, 2017 at the home of her son surrounded by family.

Mrs. Bennett was born on September 8th, 1938 in Winchester, VA the daughter of the late James E. and Mabel L. Burke.  She came to Baltimore with her father when she was ten years old.  She attended Western High School in Baltimore and later worked for the Baltimore Police Department as a keypunch operator.

She was married on April 8th, 1956 to the late Holly W. Bennett Jr. of Catonsville, MD and raised her family in Edmondson Heights where they lived from 1964 until 1999.  In 1999 she and her husband moved to Ocean City, MD where they lived until 2013.

Mrs. Bennett retired on July 1st, 1989 from the Baltimore County Police Department after working twenty three years as a School Crossing Guard at the corner of Route 40 and St. Agnes Lane where she enjoyed crossing the children throughout the school year.   She also worked in retail sales at Tuerkes and the Spice Box in Westview Mall and later as an Emergency Room Unit Clerk at Maryland General Hospital.  Judy was very active in her community with both the Boy Scouts of America with her son and the Girl Scouts of America with her daughter where she earned her twenty five year service pin.  She also volunteered at Edmondson Heights Elementary School and Baltimore County Recreation Council.  While living in Ocean City she did volunteer work at Atlantic General Hospital.

Judy had a zest for life and an infectious laughter.  Judy loved bowling in leagues both in Catonsville and later in Ocean City, playing cards with the card club in Edmondson Heights and her grandchildren, bingo with her mother-in-law, crossword puzzles, amusement parks where no rides were too much with her grandchildren, camping, Ocean City (especially the boardwalk, thrashers and Duffy’s), all dogs, her friends and staff at Winter Growth, her grandchildren (those related by blood and adopted) all holidays and her family.  She was a diehard Elvis fan never missing the Elvis shows at Springfest or Sunfest in Ocean City and was able to visit Graceland with family in 2009 which was a lifelong dream of hers.

Mrs. Bennett was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7472 in Ellicott City, MD.  In December of 2008, Mrs. Bennett was also admitted as a member of The National Society of The Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her two children, Holly W. Bennett III of Ellicott City and daughter, Teresa S. Oros of Eldersburg; one sister, Sharon Ditto of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren, Holly W. Bennett IV, Heather N. Bennett, Samantha A. Broadwick, Jessica C. Oros and Juleanne E. Oros and one great grandchild, Nora Ann Broadwick.
