Levi Lamont Peterson

Levi Lamont Peterson (Lee) 1927-2017 of Winter Haven, Florida

Lee Peterson was born June 11, 1927 in Detroit, Maine.  He died at the home of his daughter on December 25, 2017.  He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Elizabeth (Johnson) Peterson, his daughter, Mary Ann Peterson, and his sister, Priscilla Payne.  He attended Detroit Public Schools and Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine.  Lee enlisted in the US Navy where he served on a destroyer escort, USS Huse, DE 145.  After the end of World War II he returned to Detroit, Maine and worked at Walpole Woodworkers.  He then served as a Maine State Trooper for two years.  He returned to Walpole Woodworkers and worked as Manager for 25 years.

Lee married Virginia (Gini) Fox of Hartland, Maine in 1949.  They had five children:  Dawn Cox (Jesse) of Winter Haven, Florida, Mary Ann Peterson (deceased as an infant), Colleen Seremet of Catonsville, Maryland, Dale Peterson of Benedict, Maryland, and Coral Showalter (Gary) of Waldorf, Maryland.  They have ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  He is survived by his sister, Pauline Hall of Waterville, Maine and several nieces and nephews.

Lee and Gini left Maine in 1972 for Waldorf, Maryland where Lee worked for Cedar Fences in Upper Marlboro, Maryland for 20 years.  He retired in 1992.  Lee was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.  He was Past Master of Meridan Lodge in Maine and a member of St. Columba Lodge #150 of LaPLata, Maryland where he served as Treasurer for 10 years.  Lee and Gini belonged to Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church in Waldorf, Maryland where he served as an Elder.  They moved to Lakeland, Florida in 2004 and joined North Lakeland Presbyterian Church and more recently, Chapel in the Grove in Lakeland, Florida.  They spent their last two years together living in Winter Haven, Florida.  Lee was a craftsman and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Raymond Funeral Service of LaPlata, Maryland from 1 to 3 PM with a memorial service at 3 PM.
