Lynn "Wayne" Hill was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky on December 1, 1935, the only child of Parker and Daisy Hill. Wayne spent most of his childhood growing up on a tobacco farm. He used to talk about how he earned his spending money as a teenager growing tobacco on a little patch of land on his parent's farm. He would grow the tobacco, cut it down and dry it out, then take it to market to sell. After high school he attended the University of Kentucky and studied music. Wayne was a trumpet player, having once auditioned for the Lawrence Welk orchestra back in the 1950's. Wanting to get out Kentucky and see the world, he left college and joined the army. He met Mary while stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland. After marrying in 1960, Wayne and Mary immediately started a family. They set off to see the world and raise their family of six children, Robert, Mary, Chris, Rita, Stephen and Billy. With tours in Korea and Vietnam, Ohio, Indiana, Thailand, and Germany, see the world he did, packing up the family and setting out in the Red Rambler or big blue Ford station wagon. Wayne and Mary made sure that frequent visits were made to Kentucky and Baltimore to visit both sets of grandparents and extended family.
Returning from Germany in 1977, he settled the family in Catonsville. He retired from the Army in 1978 and started a word processing business which he ran for a couple of years before becoming manager of office and mail services at PHH Corp. in Hunt Valley. He retired from PHH in 1996.
Unfortunately, not long after the family was just getting settled in Maryland, Mary was diagnosed with cancer in 1979. A loving and devoted husband, he cared for her with help from the children and family until her death in 1996.
Wayne is predeceased by his wife Mary and son Robert. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
