Margaret J. Chambers (Margene), 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 in Ellicott City, MD where she resided for the past 7 years. She had been hospitalized for a sudden illness.
Margene was born in Youngstown, Ohio on November 4, 1936 to Martin & Margaret Flannery. She married Paul J. Chambers, Sr. on June 2, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio. They shared 67 years of marriage until Paul’s passing on Nov. 6, 2023.
They raised five children in Youngstown: Mary Jo (Gary) Letera, Terry (Sean) Muldoon, Paul (Silke) Chambers, Jr., Tommy Chambers, and Beth (Brian) Connelly.
Margene was a 1954 graduate of Ursuline High School and rarely missed a class reunion. She earned a BA from Youngstown State University in 1996. She was employed as a branch manager at Metropolitan National Bank for 23 years, retiring in 2001. She served on the Board of the Beatitude House for 6 years. She was the secretary/treasurer of her husband’s company, Chambers Industrial Products, for 17 years. She volunteered at both St. Charles and St. Michael Parishes as a lector and Homebound & Nursing Home Minister. At St. Charles, she worked at the Soup Kitchen, served on the Worship Commission, and Pastoral Council. In addition, she was very involved with the Ursuline Alumni Association. She was a recipient of Ursuline’s Distinguished Alumna Award (2009). Margene was also Board Secretary of Hunter Woods Condo Association in Canfield. While living in Ellicott City, she belonged to Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Parish where she was a member of the Bereavement Group and Grasshoppers Group.
She and Paul had 12 grandchildren: Matt (Vanessa) Letera, Adam (Lindsey) Letera, David (Jen) Letera, Abby (Hagen) Hearn, Danny (Mary Kate) Muldoon, Sarah Muldoon, Paul Chambers, III, Megan (Andrew) Miller, Zach (Sarah) Chambers, Regan Chambers, Patrick Connelly, Moira Connelly, and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands, Gloria (Robert) Crofford and Grace (Frank) Gallagher.
Visitation will take place on Sat. March 1 at 10:00 AM at St. Charles Church in Boardman, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m.
Her ashes will be laid to rest along with her husband’s in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery located in Seville, Ohio.
A memorial Mass will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ellicott City at a later date.
