Mary Theresa Baeck, 96, beloved wife of Alfred James, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her first child, infant Thomas James Baeck, and her three brothers and their spouses James Antosy (Irene), John Antosy (Jane), and Gerald Antosy (Francis).
Mary is survived by her loving children, Anne B. Flynn (Peter), Mary Lynn Baeck (Jim Smith), and James Michael Baeck (Christine). She was the proud grandmother of Ryan, Hannah, Matthew, Eric, Rachel, Brendan, Caitlyn, and Brigid, and proud great-grandmother of Emma, Maddie, Maisy, Nolan, Fia, and Nico. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by many cherished and much-loved nieces and nephews, and their families.
Mary was born in Pennsylvania on June 2, 1928. She married her husband, Jim, in 1951 and enjoyed a 62-year life with him until he passed away in 2013. They raised their family in Catonsville, MD. While her children were young, Mary worked afternoon or night shift as a private duty nurse before becoming a special education school nurse in Baltimore County. She touched the lives of many children, their families, and the people with whom she worked with great compassion and love. Mary was especially pleased that three of her granddaughters followed her into the nursing profession.
Mary loved her plants and backyard garden, which was beautiful year after year. She enjoyed embroidery, quilting and other creative activities, sharing her talents with family and friends. She and her husband, Jim, enjoyed boating and especially fishing and crabbing. They were both big fans of the Baltimore Colts, and grudgingly watched the Baltimore Ravens. After they both retired, Mary and Jim traveled the US and Europe, and cruised the seas.
She will be so missed by all those who loved her and knew her. We will hold her in our hearts forever.
