Mary (Close) Bean

MARY CLOSE BEAN, 94 Mary Close Bean, a long-time resident of New York, and currently residing in Catonsville Maryland, died Tuesday the 12th of April at the Charlestown Retirement Community. Mary Bean was born June 15, 1921 in Red Bank, New Jersey the daughter of Howard and Florence Close. She was united in marriage to Frederick T. Bean on January 29, 1944 in Freeport, New York. He preceded her in death December 2, 1996. Mrs. Bean received a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University College of Home Economics in 1943, was a member of Alpha Phi sorority, Pi Delta Gamma, women's honorary journalistic society, and was on the editorial board of the Widow, a campus humor magazine. Upon graduation she was employed by Macy’s Department Stores in New York, NY and then spent many dedicated years as a homemaker, raising her eight children. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Christopher Bean and wife Jean of Westhampton Beach, NY, Gregory Bean and wife Mary Ellen of Catonsville, MD, Jonathan Bean and wife Mary Kay of San Rafael, CA, Jeremy Bean and wife Alice of Rhinebeck, NY, F. Thomas Bean and wife Carolina of Centerport, NY, Lawrence Bean and wife Anne of Kings Park, NY, Phillip Bean and wife Claire of Westhampton, NY, Mary Stuthmann and husband Richard of Catonsville, MD. She has 13 loving grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in New York at a later date.
