Mary Rose Poisal Mentzel passed into the arms of her Savior on October 20, 2021. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 14, 1948, Rose was one of six and the only girl. With five brothers, she was truly the “Rose” amongst the thorns. She proudly supported our country through her employment with the NSA and would often reminisce about her days there. She met her husband, Frederick Mentzel, Jr., on a blind date and two years later on May 8, 1976, they married. She continued to work at NSA until starting a family and devoting herself full time to her two children, Thomas and Stephanie. Later on, she became the family babysitter, watching her niece, nephews, and eventually great nephews. She was beyond thrilled to become a Mom-mom and adored her two grandchildren, Abby and Matt. To Rose, faith and family meant everything. She boasted about her large extended family often, which included 56 first cousins, and she had an amazingly close relationship with the Lord. She loved to garden and bird watch and was an active member and volunteer at St. Mark’s Church and School for many years until her health led her to remain at home. She very much enjoyed her neighbors in Catonsville and considered many of them her very closest and dearest friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, John and Charlotte Poisal, and her sister-in-law Peggy Poisal. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her devoted husband, Frederick Mentzel, her son, Thomas Mentzel, daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Stephanie O’Neill, her adoring grandchildren, Abigail O’Neill and Matthew O’Neill, her brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Jeannie Poisal, Jerry Poisal, Tom and Susie Poisal, David and Maria Poisal, and Joe Poisal and fiancé Jackie Baldini, as well as, a host of nieces and nephews.
