Mary Lynn (Ferrell) Reardon, 94, of Catonsville, MD passed away peacefully on Sunday February 25, 2024 after a brief illness.
She was born on January 8, 1930 in Clarksburg, WV to Mary Ethelyn Selby and Benjamin Franklin Ferrell. She attended Washington Irving High School (class of 1947) and graduated from Salem College (class of 1951) with majors in art and biology. After graduation she moved to Maryland to work for the federal government as a microbiologist at Fort Derrick where she met the love of her life, John. She married John D. Reardon at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Frederick, MD on April 30, 1960. While raising two sons she was a realtor in Montgomery County, MD.
When her boys were in high school, she took a job at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and worked her way up from secretary to project scientist. Upon retirement she moved to Mt. Dora, Florida where she and John spent 12 years enjoying their retirement. They traveled to Greece, England, Ireland, Germany, Mexico, Canada and Egypt and were involved with the Women’s Club of Mt. Dora. After her husband’s passing she moved to Catonsville, MD to be closer to family. She continued to enjoy traveling, revisiting England, Germany and Ireland with her children. She was an avid scrabble player, active member of the wine club at Charlestown, member of the Lunch Bunch and instrumental in coordinating a support group for widows/widowers for over 15 years. Art was always very important to her, she loved to collect Japanese wood block prints and visit galleries. She enjoyed many years of being a Olney Theater subscriber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Charles Ferrell of Gaithersburg, MD. She is survived by her sons John (Veronica) of Woodbine, MD and Jim (Claudia) of Madison, WI, and three grandchildren John Theodore Saulius Reardon, Benjamin Reardon and Caroline Reardon. Along with her many, many friends.
Services will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church at 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228 on March 25, 2024.There will be a Memorial Gathering starting at 10:00 AM on the day of the service. The Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Followed by Internment Service at the Baltimore National Cemetery (5501 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21228) at 1:00 PM. There will be a reception at the Charlestown Community following the burial.
