Melva Beryl Grail (Lock), age 84, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2019 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on December 29, 1934 in Baltimore, MD to Vernon and Alma Lock, Mel graduated from Southern High school in 1953. She worked at Violetville Elementary school before a long career with the Social Security Administration/Health Care Finance Administration, retiring in 1999.
She is survived by, and lovingly remembered by, her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, George J. Grail; Son and Daughter in law, Jeff & Christine Wier (Jacksonville, FL); Granddaughters Rachel Wier (New York, NY), and Hannah Wier (St. Louis, MO); as well as many longtime friends, neighbors and coworkers.
Mel and George married on May 25th, 1974 and moved to their dream neighborhood of Catonsville. She was active, fun loving, and loved to garden. They loved to vacation in Ocean City, travel across the country, cruise, go on long drives, and visit their grandchildren in Florida. Mel was an avid sports fan and season ticket holder with a keen knowledge of all things Orioles, Ravens, and Baltimore Colts. They were active in the Colts Corrals, and the Ravens Roost Booster Clubs.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 30th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Candle Light Funeral Home, Frederick Rd., Catonsville. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 31st at 10am, also at the Candle Light Funeral Home, followed by interment at Loudon Park Cemetery.
