Michael F. "Mike" Karpers, 85 years of age, passed away on April 15, 2023 at his Catonsville home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, JoAnn Uhlhorn Karpers, daughters Anne Brown of Westminster, MD and Susan Slade (David) of Catonsville, MD. He was the proud grandfather of 5 loving grandsons: Michael, Ryan and Matthew Brown, William and Austin Slade. He is also survived by his siblings, Dr. Bernard Karpers, Jr. (Kathleen), Paul Karpers, Sr. (Ruth), Mary Karpers Burke and Betsey Karpers Swancar. He is also survived by a large, loving extended family and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard S. Karpers, Sr. and Frances LaPlanche Karpers, brother-in-law, Dr. J.R. Swancar and son-in- law, Robert "Bird" Brown.
He was educated at St. Alphonsus School and was a proud graduate of Mt. St. Joseph High School, Class of 1955 where he became a lifelong Gaels fan. He graduated from Loyola College in 1959 and had a successful career with the Food and Drug Administration for 33 years.
After retirement, The Knights of Columbus, Council 1960 became a second home to him where he spent countless hours volunteering, cooking and serving. He developed life-long friendships through his membership there. He could be found every 4th of July on the front lawn of the Council Home watching the Catonsville Parade from the "best seat in the house".
Mike enjoyed golfing, traveling and being an active member of the Knights of Columbus up until his recent illness. He truly loved life and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love him.
The family will receive friends at the Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road Catonsville, MD on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 2 pm - 5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Chapel, 30 Melvin Avenue Catonsville, MD on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 10 am. Immediately following Mass a luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 1010 Frederick Road, Catonsville MD. Interment will be private at a later date.
