With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patrick Gerard McManus, whose nickname was Jerry: beloved brother, uncle, and friend to countless others. Jerry departed on June 12, 2023, leaving a legacy of love, generosity, and cherished memories. His warm presence, kindhearted nature, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends will forever be remembered.
His father, Joseph John McManus, and Mother, Mary Jane McManus, predeceased him. He was survived by siblings Joseph McManus (Diane), Mary Jane Sacker, James McManus, Rita Williams (Michael), John McManus, Tom McManus (Mary Pat), Mary Cullen Campbell (John), and sister-in-law, Jane McManus. He was a loving uncle to Michael (Joyce) McManus, Erin McManus, Megan Silk (Billy) Jen Sacker, Katie Sacker, Christopher McManus, Cecilia McManus, Brendan Williams, Kaitlyn Williams, Caroline Williams, Tommy McManus, Emmy McManus, Danny McManus, and Joseph Grupenhoff.
Jerry was born on July 5, 1957, in Catonsville, Maryland. From an early age, it was evident that he possessed a remarkable capacity for love and compassion. Jerry adored his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He brought joy, stability, and unwavering support as a devoted son, brother, and uncle. He was a loving and nurturing Godfather to Brendan Williams, one of his nephews, teaching the values of compassion, kindness, and perseverance. Professionally, Jerry dedicated many years of his life to the Social Security Administration as a contract worker with VSP. His work commitment and genuine desire to help others were evident in his career.
Jerry grew up with an innate curiosity about the world and a genuine interest in connecting with others. He found that his front porch was the perfect conversation stage. Neighbors, friends, and even strangers passing by were drawn to his warm smile, inviting demeanor, and the stories he effortlessly weaved into captivating tales. Whether discussing current events or lending an ear to someone in need, Jerry's front porch was a haven for open-hearted conversations. Aside from his gift of gab, Jerry found immense joy in fishing. He connected deeply with nature and cherished the peaceful moments spent casting a line into the calm waters of nearby lakes and rivers.
Jerry's presence in the community was truly invaluable. His unwavering kindness, infectious laughter, and genuine interest in others left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who crossed his path. He embodied the spirit of neighborliness, fostering a sense of unity and belonging that enriched the lives of those around him. His front porch and fishing escapades were not merely activities but expressions of his generous spirit and desired to forge meaningful connections with others.
A Roman Catholic-Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Chapel in Catonsville, Maryland where friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of this remarkable man who enriched our lives with his vibrant personality and love for conversation and fishing. Though Jerry's front porch may now be silent, his spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all those he touched. He has left an enduring legacy of kindness, warmth, and the importance of genuine human connection. May his soul rest in eternal peace, forever casting his line in the rivers of paradise as he engages in endless conversations with kindred spirits with his faithful canine companions, Bo Bo and Mini beside him.
