Ralph was born into a deeply religious and hardworking family on October 16, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to William Atlee and Beatrice Teresa Belt. He was the youngest of seven children.

Outside of household chores and working on his grandparents’ farm, Ralph’s first job was delivering the local paper. He enjoyed serving the members of his community. Reading the newspaper, clipping articles, and sending them to friends and family became a lifelong habit.

He attended, played football and graduated from St Thomas Aquinas High School in Columbus, Ohio in 1952. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict at the age of 17.  While serving in Korea he saw action on the front lines. A story is told among friends about Ralph using his R&R time to hitch a ride with his M-1 rifle to bad-guy country to stand watch with his high school buddy. He was discharged in 1954 with the rank of sergeant.

After his military service, Ralph attended Ohio State University pursuing studies in criminal justice.  Ralph began his successful law enforcement career as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington D.C. and later served as a federal law enforcement agent. He always served his community both in and out of uniform assisting others and organizations when needed. He was a true public servant.

Ralph’s legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren.

Ralph Francis Belt passed on June 12, 2019 surrounded by love of family both near and far. A Memorial Service was held on June 15, 2019 in Melbourne, Florida. A private “Celebration of Life” will be held for his family in Baltimore, Maryland.
