Ralph Glenn “Buddy” Young, May 13, 1943-June 16, 2024.

He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Marie Young, and his children, Jennifer Brucie, Anthony Young and spouse Patricia Murphy, Joseph Walrath and spouse Angela Hsu, grandchildren Karlirose, Jack, and Caden Maher, Cal, Mack, and Nina Walrath, brothers James, Richard, and Micheal Young.

Born to Rita and Richard Young in 1943, Buddy was raised in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, along with his three brothers.  After graduating from Mayfield High School, he attended Miami University of Ohio and graduated with a degree in education. He was a star athlete, excelling in football, wrestling, and baseball. He later received his Master’s Degree in Education from Cleveland State University.

Buddy married the love of his life, Cecilia, on March 10, 1976. They raised their 3 children, Jennifer, Anthony, and Joseph, on a small farm in Hambden, Ohio. He continued his career as a middle and high school educator and football/wrestling coach,  later becoming an administrator for several area schools. He later ventured into sports medicine as a Public Speaker and Public Relations Director for Ohio Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

Buddy always made his family a priority. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved camping, riding his bike, reading, taking long scenic car rides, crafting model planes and tanks to give to his grandkids, a nice cup of coffee,  and making meatballs and dancing on Sundays.  He was tireless in his devotion to his kids and grandkids, always there to advise, listen, and help. He always cheered loudly on the sidelines of sporting events, and tried not to miss milestone celebrations.  He impacted anyone who came into his sphere, both friends and family,  and was well-loved by staff and residents of Winter Growth Memory Care in Columbia, MD, where he resided during the past year.

Buddy Young was a giant of a man and he leaves big shoes to fill. As a family, we hope to honor him by living as he did, with strong character, kindness, and a genuine love for those around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future; details will be posted once arrangements are made. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Howard County Fire Department, Ellicott City Station 2.
