Raymond Hughes Fowler, Jr.

A Baltimore native, living in Ellicott City, Ray, 86 years old, was a graduate of Polytechnic High School, and the University of Baltimore with a B.S. degree in Business. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Fowler, 3 children Robert Fielder, Donald Fielder Sr, and Lynn Wetherell: one brother James Fowler, sisters-in-law Donna Fowler, Joann Fowler, and Theresa Fowler. He had 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 17-year-old Grandson Eric Wetherell, and 2 brothers Melvin and Thomas Fowler. Ray was e,ployed by Martin Marietta, Vitro Laboratories, and retired after 29 years of service with Westinghouse. He joined The Optimist International Friend of Youth organization in the 1980's and rose within its ranks to Governor of the Maryland-South Delaware District. He was a member of the Randallstown Optimist Club. He coached the Randallstown Optimist Football League, and the Baltimore County Liberty Road Little League Baseball teams. He loved gardening, driving his lawn mower, and working on his car, but most of all being an Optimist and working with the children. He died peacefully at Seasons Hospice of Northwest Hospital after being exposed to COVID-19 at his nursing home.
