Ray was born in the roaring twenties into a poor Catonsville family of five.
He graduated from Catonsville High School, class of 1940.
Served 4 years in Naval Air Core (now Air Force) during WWII and after pilot training became a bombardier.
In 1947 he married Amelia F. Brown, having one son, David R. Servary one grandson, Jason D. Servary and two great grandchildren. They were happily married for almost 70 years
He attended Baltimore college of Commerce (now University of Baltimore) earning an accounting degree.
Ray worked for DCA food industries (Donut Corporation) in Ellicott City for 20 years as a cost accountant and office manager. He was also, President of the labor union there.
In addition he worked for Esskay foods for a short time in the seventies to support the family.
After Esskay to avoid a difficult commute he joined the Howard County Government in the office of Finance working his way thru the ranks, to become the Director of Finance with a 32 year career.
Ray was always a respected hard worker, true gentleman- always with a handkerchief and a real “company man”. One of his strong points was he never quit when the going got tough and followed thru till the job or project was done.
Ray was a devoted husband and Father, great provider and loyal member of the United Methodist Church , serving as an usher and finance advisor for many years. Ray was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Further, Ray liked Sports, and played a lot of baseball in his youth. He also enjoyed travel, antique collecting and was well versed in the news, and current events and politics. Ray had a wonderful life, always enjoying a good time, having many friends, and will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
