Rebecca Dean, August 5, 1928- March 13, 2020 passed away peacefully at home at 91 years of age, from complications due to long term cerebral vascular disease. She was born in Durham, North Carolina as the daughter of Leslie and Lottie Burroughs and was 1 of 11 children. As an adult, in addition to living in Durham, North Carolina she also lived in Philadelphia and Delaware, where she married Melvin Dean (deceased in 1999) and where she spent most of her life. The last 6-1/2 years of her life were in Maryland where she and her youngest daughter lived together. Rebecca had 3 children: Alfred (deceased in 1998), Barbara Jean and Deniese.
In 1975 Rebecca was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She served as a full time minister (regular pioneer) of Jehovah’s Witnesses from 1976 until her passing. She loved to share in the ministry and assisted many people to learn about the Bible. She also looked forward to attending the meetings at the Kingdom Hall and Assembly Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses as well as the larger conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the summer. And when she was no longer able to attend due to her disability, she looked forward to being tied into the meetings at home by way of streaming over the internet. She had strong faith and looked forward to the promise in Revelation Chapter 21, verses 3,4. In Delaware she was a member of the Penny Hill Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses; and when she moved to Maryland in 2013 she became a member of the Ellicott City Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Rebecca was a very loving person and had a host of friends in Delaware, Maryland as well as a few other states. Rebecca worked as a beautician for several decades. She enjoyed going on outings as she was able, and at home she enjoyed reading her bible and bible based publications, as well as viewing and listening to bible based videos. Rebecca enjoyed watching TV programs such as: some game shows, Perry Mason, I Love Lucy, Leave It To Beaver, animal shows, ice skating and gymnastics. Rebecca Dean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rebecca Dean is survived by her 2 daughters, son-in law Albert, daughter-in-law Angie, Linda (Shanni Dean), a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, 2 brothers Raymond and Robert Burroughs and their wives, and a host of nieces and nephews.
