On Friday, October 13, 2023, Richard G. Pyle, a long-time resident of Catonsville, passed away at the age of 84. Rick grew up in the Waverly section of Baltimore, attending Blessed Sacrament Parish School, Calvert Hall College High School, and Loyola College. As a freshman at Loyola College, he began ROTC and planned for a career in the United States Army.

While in high school he met his one and only Joan, and after dating for five years, they married and spent 63 years together. Following college and his shortened time in the Army (honorably discharged for medical reasons), Rick and Joan built a close family and made many family memories. Early family life included fishing, trips to historic locations, and annual vacations in Ocean City, MD. Rick also continued to share his own father’s love of Baltimore sports and Maryland steamed crabs. Aside from spending time with his family, he had a love for reading, competitive skeet shooting, Labrador retrievers, Calvert Hall football, Loyola lacrosse, and of course, his country.

In addition to being a beloved husband to Joan, Rick was the devoted father of Terri Doan and her husband Chuck, Tim Pyle and his wife Linda, and Tracey Stone and her husband Gary; dear brother of Sr. Dorothy Ann Pyle, DC; loving grandfather of Bradley Doan and his wife Brooke, Matthew Doan, Jerry Pyle, William Pyle and his wife Madina, and Delaney Stone; and dear great-grandfather of Griffin Doan.

Visitation will be held at the family-owned Candle Light Funeral Home, 1835 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD (21228) on Monday, October 23, 2023, from 3 PM until 5 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 9 AM. Due to the constraints at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, the interment will be private. Your understanding is appreciated.
