Robert Louis Ragot, Sr., a resident of Severna Park passed peacefully on June 20, 2024 at the age of 95 years old.
Mr. Ragot was born in Easton, Pennsylvania and graduated from Lafayette College there, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1957. Following his graduation from Lafayette, Mr. Ragot was hired by the Westinghouse Air Arm Division where he worked as a circuit designer until 1963. He earned a patent award there for a precision device to test the accuracy of a moving target simulator. He also served as an instructor in the US Army Signal Schools from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War, and as a civilian instructor at Fort Monmouth, NJ in 1955.
In September 1963, he was offered a position at the Navy Laboratory in Annapolis, MD (Marine Engineering Laboratory; later to become the Naval Ship Research & Development Center). At the Navy Lab, Mr. Ragot directed wide ranging systems engineering efforts for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle and the Air Cushion Landing Craft, the latter now in operational use and known as the LCAC. He won several individual and team commendation awards for these efforts. During his DSRV work, Mr. Ragot received a patent award for a Thruster Duct Nozzle Design. He retired from the Navy Lab in September of 1981.
In October of 1981, Mr. Ragot was again hired by Westinghouse for a Naval Ship Combat Systems Engineering Group. There he was involved in detail design efforts for the Taiwan Frigate, the NATO Frigate, the Royal Jordanian Air Defense System, the NATO AAW System and the Naval Airship Program. During the NATO Frigate effort he had two short term assignments in Hamburg, Germany. For the Naval Airship Program, he had several short term assignments in London, England. He retired from Westinghouse in April of 1991.
Mr. Ragot’s interests included experimental electronic circuit design, home carpentry projects, computer programming, and astronomy. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park and participated in fund raising, religious education, and Home Pastoral Visiting efforts there.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Santa Mary Ragot (Nee Colatriano). As well as his loving daughter and son in law, Marianne Danko and Steven Danko. Including his adoring grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Boyer (Brett), Laura Marie Danko, Anne Marie Holmes (Andrew), Robert Louis Ragot, III and great grandson, Jace Michael Boyer. Mr. Ragot was predeceased by his adopted mother, Laura Ragot; parents, Henri Edmond Ragot and Mabel Peralt Mandeville; son, Robert Louis Ragot, Jr.; grandson, Michael Steven Danko and cherished siblings, Henri Warren Ragot, Marien Josephine McBride and Odette Mayfield Cannon.
Services are to take place at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146 on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm with a Mass Of Christian Burial starting at 12:30 pm and burial immediately following Mass at the Maryland Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD 21032.
