Robert Jonathan Slaght, son of Arthur G. Slaght, D.D. and Florence Helmer Slaght, was born in Sodus, N.Y. 12-28-26. He grew up the son of a Baltimore City Presbyterian minister/missionary. He served in the Air Force Military Police (unit became US Army) during WWII and was an eyewitness to the Nuremberg Trials. He was married for 55 years to a beautiful Eastern Shore girl, Barbara A. Wallace, learned to eat steamed crabs and enjoyed the many afternoons they spent boating on the Choptank River. He raised a family of 4 girls - Susan R. Slaght of Beverly, MA, Donna Slaght Fuller of Glyndon, MD, Roberta Slaght Scanlon of Uncasville, CT and Barbara Ellen Slaght Halperen of California. He was a Master Salesman/Lease Manager for over 40 years at O'Donnell Pontiac in Ellicott City, and was honored as the longest living member of Rolling Road Golf Club at their 100th Anniversary celebration last year. As the 25th original member of the club, his best 18-hole round played was 66 and (drumroll please) he made 4 (four) Hole-in-One shots over his lifetime! He was Rolling Road Club Champion 7 (seven) times and played both regular, Senior and Invitational Pro-Am tournaments. He became President of the Maryland State Golf Association and served as a tournament official for local clubs and the Senior Tournament circuit. He is predeceased by his wife, Barb and youngest daughter, Barbie; brother, David Slaght and nephew, John Slaght; sister, Margaret Slaght Leiserson; and his senior life companion, Rosalie Emrich. He was a resident of Brightview Assisted Living in Catonsville, MD and died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 due to the Covid-19 coronavirus. He is survived by his 3 oldest daughters, 3 grandsons: Robert Fuller, Michael Scanlon, Thomas Scanlon; 2 granddaughters: Katie Fuller, Kerry Scanlon Dickson; 1 great grandson: Ryan Fuller, nephew, Mark Slaght and niece, Jeneane Slaght Zeimen; and the Leiserson family nieces and nephews - Jay, Margery, Jo Anne, Ellen, Jan, Jody and their children. Due to the COVID quarantines, services on Jan. 28 2021 will be at the VA Cemetery at Garrison Forest for immediate family only.
