Theodore (Ted) James Focht of Spotsylvania Virginia passed away April 5, 2019. Ted was born December 30, 1937 to Arthur Leroy Focht and Monnie Lula Creed Focht Bostwick and was raised in Washington, D.C., but lived near Fort Lauderdale Florida for a time, too. Ted loved boxing as a teenager and was a Golden Gloves Fly Weight boxing champion at 18 years old. He served in the U.S. Army and earned his wings as a paratrooper, but was injured during training exercises and received a medical discharge. After serving in the Army, he worked as a brick layer, a butcher and eventually found his career as an elevator mechanic for the General Services Administration where he worked until his early retirement after 29 years.
Ted married the love of his life, Marcy, on March 24, 1961 who passed away on January 4, 2019. He is survived by his son Mark of Catonsville Maryland, daughter Dawn Johnson of Wake Forest North Carolina, son Eric of Ashburn Virginia and brother in law John Ziegler of Tionesta Pennsylvania. Grandchildren include Brian, Danny, Aaron, Heidi and Evan and great grandchild Tinsley.
Ted was a devoted husband and father. He was active in his children’s lives coaching various little league sports such as baseball, basketball and football and help their teams win several championships. He also spent many Friday nights standing in the cold watching the Spotsylvania High School Marching Band and enjoying some football while he was there. Ted set the example of hard work for his children, often working a second job on the weekends to provide for his family. His work ethic was surpassed only by his love and compassion for his family and was always there when needed. Ted was a happy and silly man and genuinely enjoyed people. His family will miss him dearly.
