On June 25, 2020, Thomas John Barry was called home at the age of 71. He was surrounded by his family after a short but aggressive battle with heart disease. The world has lost a great husband, father, brother, and friend.

Tom was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 23, 1949 to parents, Nickolas and Joyce Barry. A veteran of the Army, he served alongside his brothers of the 577th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam. On January 2, 1993, he married his beautiful wife, Catherine, and together they had a beloved daughter, Lindsey. They resided in their home in the heart of Catonsville, Maryland.

After being discharged from the Army, he continued with his career path of operating heavy equipment, which he called “playing in the dirt.” Tom was a kid at heart, always finding ways to joke around and make people laugh; he loved to see people smile. He was a person who could find humor in anything, no matter the situation.

Tom had a true servant’s heart. He spent many days and nights at Catonsville United Methodist Church helping to set up or clean up from Vacation Bible School, Easter, Christmas, and much more. He spent many weeks with the youth ministry Camp Hope. Using his knowledge of construction, he assisted and directed the youth missions’ team in their goal to serve a homeowner with a home improvement need in which they are physically or financially unable to complete on their own.

He always had a story to tell, whether it was about his days in the military or funny stories of his daughter when she was younger. Tom was a simple man; he loved his family, his friends, and his work. His light will continue to shine through all the lives he’s touched.

A memorial will take place outdoors at the Candle Light Funeral Home on Monday, June 29th from 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm. The family understands the uncertain times with the virus.
