Thomas John Grimes

Thomas John Grimes, 93, of Baltimore, MD died on March 21, 2016.  “Pop” (as he was affectionately called by family and friends) was born on August 31, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA to the late John Arthur Grimes and the late Leona L. (Neff) Holzman.   His death was preceded by the death of his parents and two brothers, John and Leroy Grimes.  Pop is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Shirley (Dean) Grimes and his six children:  Ben Grimes and his wife, Margaret; Billy Grimes and his wife, Toni; Sandy (Grimes) Allen and her husband, Michael; Thomas Grimes and his wife, Christine; Dee (Grimes) Rusta and her husband, Peter and his youngest son, David Grimes.  He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Pop earned his certification as a brick mason and worked in the building industry until he retired when he was in his late 70s.  He enjoyed his beer, loved to play poker, shoot pool, bake and cook.  He had special family recipes for his cheesecake, apple cake and holiday cookies.   Like most men, he was also a sports enthusiast.  He especially enjoyed watching Ravens football and golf.

A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at the Catonsville United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:00am.
