Tom was born and raised in the Edmondson Village/ Catonsville area in Maryland. His education led him to become a contractor to Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab in 1968. He left the lab in 1974, but his career path led him back to APL where he worked 17 years as a contractor and 15 as a direct staff member. Throughout his career, Tom was renowned for his skills, as a printed circuit board designer and assisting the space department with satellite electronic packaging challenges, working on Skylab, MSX, NEAR and more recently on several satellites including MESSENGER and New Horizon. He retired from APL in October 2011.
Tom was famous for his infamous prismatic personal stories, his charming personality, and many notable personal experiences he shared with everyone.
Tom is the son of the late Page Edmund Parks and Jane Catherine Parks. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen of 21 of years, whom together had the most passionate and caring relationship imaginable. Tom is also survived by 3 step daughters; Ashley (Ryan), Azure (Mike), Christee (Wyman), 8 step grandkids and 2 step great grandkids. Tom and Helen had the biggest passion for dogs and is also survived by his “boys” Buttons and Beaus and the late Bear 1 and Bear 2.
