When young, Bill’s first full time job was working with his mother, Pearl at the Esskay Meat Packing Plant in East Baltimore. Being a people person he knew this job wasn’t for him. He then went into sales where he worked for Sears, then Montgomery Ward, and then later returned to Sears until his retirement 4 years ago. During his 60 year working career he took a multi-year break during which time he owned Rodgers Toy, Hobby and Pet store which was located in Mondawmin Mall. After this endeavor he became a wholesale sporting goods manufacturer’s representative and owned his own rep group called C & C Associates.
Bill loved all things sports especially the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, local history, Edgar Allen Poe, musicals and theater. His love for sports was so great in his younger years Bill was a referee for local high school basketball and football leagues.
He also loved to travel to places such as Lancaster PA, Williamsburg VA, Ocean City MD and Wilmington NC to visit his daughter Julie and her family. Bill enjoyed playing bingo, watching Jeopardy, going to the casino and reading the paper. While reading, if he came across an article he knew family or friends would be interested in he would cut it out and mail it to them. He was very thoughtful in that way.
Bill never met a person he didn’t like. He was the most caring, considerate and loving man. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
