Betty was born in England and came to the U.S. at the age of 8 years old. The Jones family settled in New Jersey where she resided at the Baltusrol Country Club while her father served as general manager. Betty graduated from the Kent Place School in Summit, New Jersey and attended Beaver College in Pennsylvania.
Betty became a naturalized citizen in 1954; she moved to Columbia in 1980 and worked at the former Hecht Company for many years, retiring at age 80.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Foster of Columbia, Maryland, and her son Swift, his wife Susan of Morristown, New Jersey. Also surviving is her grand-daughter Jennifer Avery of Ellicott City and her great grandson, Daniel Ward, age 9.
She died peacefully of complications from pneumonia at the Gilchrist Hospice in Towson, Maryland.
