On August 13, 2023, Merrill Steinwald Timmins of Catonsville passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of Frances Evelyn Timmins (nee Jones); devoted father of Laura Routson and her husband Todd Routson; dear grandfather of Claudia Elise Routson, Kyle Xavier Routson and Grahame Bennett Routson and loving brother of Carolyn Timmins and Craig Timmins and his wife Virginia "Ginnie" Timmins.
Merrill “Tim” Timmins was the eldest of four children. He valued hard work and a job well done and held many interesting jobs from the time that he was very young. He graduated from Catonsville High School. His charisma, charm, passion for organization, and dedication led him through interesting and rewarding careers in sales and eventually the electrical and defense industries. In his young adult years, in addition to his career, he started a successful orchestra, playing the great jazz standards, and served in the Army National Guard.
Tim was blessed with both musical and artistic talent. His first hobby was creating elaborate HO and N gauge train layouts. Eventually, he found his penultimate pastime in carving and painting waterfowl and other aviary masterpieces. Not only did he receive numerous awards, but he dedicated himself to sharing his craft by teaching classes for about 3 decades.
Tim was a lifelong Christian who loved the Lord and served on various church committees and sang in the choir. He was a devoted, ever-present, and loving father and “Poppy” to his three grandchildren.
After his retirement, Tim and his beloved wife enjoyed traveling the country and the world together, exploring and sharing experiences with their wonderful groups of friends.
